Four years after Flesh Tone, Kelis’ is finally dropping some new heat in the kitchen on 4/29! Looks like she’s taking a step back from her usual house & electronic dance music and cooking back to soul. Hopefully, it will taste as good as it looks!

NEW U.K. Artist Climbing the Charts

Daley Look Up

Move over Robin Thicke, Daley is here! While listening to 107.5 WBLS, this twenty-four year old U.K. artist had me feeling it last night!

“Look Up,” produced by Pharrell Williams, has this old school R&B soul feel. Listening to it, you might question whether it’s a new hit or something old you never came across. This artist is foreign to our radio stations, but has released earlier albums.

Daley says his forthcoming debut album “Days and Nights” is something like a “diary,” revealing thoughts he’d held privately before.  “Technically, it’s a love album,” he explains in an interview at Billboard’s New York studio.  “It may just be a breakup album,” he adds, “to be honest.” Billboard.com

Pharrell, as always, did a number on this one and Daley’s vocals are amazing.

Good luck to him!

New Music from Justin Bieber

We’ve seen many young pop stars come & go and I must admit I was a bit nervous when Bieber hit puberty. His voice changed and he wasn’t able to hit high-pitched notes when singing songs like “Baby.”

Luckily, it looks like Bieber isn’t going anywhere! Since mid October, Bieber has dropped a new single every Monday and I’m definitely liking what I hear. These songs are more mature and sexy, but it’s expected. He is getting older!

My faves so far are “PYD feat. R. Kelly” and “All That Matters.” These two are more R&B than pop.

Bieber has one bouncy pop song called “Roller Coaster.”

Hopefully he doesn’t drop ALL the songs on his new album. I’m sure his fans will want more than what’s being released.

Janelle Monáe – PrimeTime ft. Miguel

Just in time for “cuffin’ season”! Janelle Monáe and Miguel come together to give us a video for her new song , “PrimeTime.” Not only did these two produce a great song, they also act out a convincing love story. This is definitely one of those videos you can watch over and over.

Side note: Janelle Monáe looks amazing in that black and white two piece. Is she switching up on us?

Who knew she’s been hiding that nice figure under her suits! I didn’t.

My Take on Drake’s NWTS

drake_nothing_was_the_same

Since the leak a week ago, I’ve been seeing headlines and posts everywhere about Drake’s Nothing Was the Same album. Headlines are reading “Drake’s ‘NWTS’ is the best album of his career” and “Drake’s ‘Nothing Was the Same,’ Slated to Be His Best Work to Date” and more along the same lines.

I like the album, but Thank Me Later and Take Care were great. In fact, I think Thank Me Later is better than NWTS.

With songs like “Furthest Thing,” “Wu-Tang Forever,” “Hold On, We’re Going Home,” “Own It,” “From Time,” and “Come Thru”— Drake could have made an R&B album. He did state in a interview with MTV he’s not here to make “rap albums” and he wants to be the next Marvin Gaye, but God damn.

Luckily after a few soft mushy tracks, Drake switches up the tempo with something you can bounce to.

The radio has been playing “Pound Cake” ft. Jay-Z as if it’s the greatest song they did together. I’m not feeling it too much. Drake killed it! Jay-Z… not so much. Compared to his verse in “Light Up” on Thank Me Later, Jay-Z didn’t go as hard as he could. I think the best line Jay-Z said in “Pound Cake” was “I’ve done made more millionaires than the lotto did. Dame made millions, Biggs made millions, Ye made millions, Just made millions, Lyor made millions, Cam made millions. Beans’ll tell you if he wasn’t in his feelings.” TRUTH!

Jay-Z-Drake

I was happy to see he did a song with Sampha. That’s a good look for the both of them.

The beats are great as always. Drake definitely has a good selection of producers working with him that pick the best samples and sounds.

Not sure how many hits Drake will have off this album. I’m feeling it though. I’m curious to see how well it does with the leak and all.

I’ll be buying it on Tuesday, 9/24. Will you?
